Admissions: Registration and issue of applications start in October. NPS schools have started issuing forms for 2010-2011. Each branch follows its own dates. You have to contact in person.
Admission for Grade 1 to 9 and 11 is based on written test.
The admission procedure is totally opaque.

Fees: Each NPS has its own fee structure. NPS Rajaji Nagar is about 50K whereas HSR branch is above 65K. Check out with the school for details.

Activities: Music, dance, aerobics, theatre, vocals etc. These are conducted after school hours from 3rd standard.

Academics: Only from grade 6, semester system starts. For lower classes, monthly reviews are undertaken. For KG, daily evaluation is conducted.

Remarks: NPS is known to be more academically oriented. NPS Rajaji Nagar has been granted autonomy by the CBSE board.
The admission process is not transparent. It is better schools post details on their website than having to curse the recptionists.
Having applied to NPS once, they never called for interviews (for LKG) . When we kept asking them, they just kept telling us, we will inform. One fine day, they respond admissions are over.
So what do they expect in the application?

Hope you can share your experiences.

Baldwin Girls High School

One of the oldest schools in Bangalore is Baldwin Girls High School. The Methodist Episcopal School was started under the Methodist Church in 1878. The Baldwin Womens Methodist College is attached to it.

Languages offered: French, Kannada, Hindi (not sure about Sanskrit,Bengali and Bengali being offered)
Classes: Nursery till 12th

Class Strength: about 60 students per class.

Admission: Maybe around February, am not sure.
Activities: Swimming, Music, Sports like basketball

Fees: New admission fees of Rs 25,000 and a refundable deposit of Rs. 2000. For languages other than Hindi and Kannada Rs. 1800 per annum. The fees for the whole year ranges from 22,000 to 25,000 including building fees, tution fees, club fees.
Boarders annually have to shell out about Rs.75K(includes mess fees of about 3000 per month, laundry, provisional). New admissions have to pay about Rs.30,000.

Remarks: Compared to Baldwin Boys school, many of my friends prefer the girls school. Teaching is very good in primary classes.I don't know about the higher classes, but the school has maintained its standard.

Update: After writing this post and after some months I got feedback from friends that Baldwin Girls is good enough only for Primary and many parents tend to withdraw girls as they proceed to higher classes. Some of them have been citing peer groups oriented towards more mature attitudes.
