Samarthanam Residential School - friendly school for the differently abled

Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled has been involved in various programmes for helping the differently abled. In conjunction with this they are going to open a "friendly" residential school in HSR Layout for the normal, under-privileged and the differently abled.

From the Trust website about the school:

  • Lifts and ramps to help the physically challenged
  • Carpeting and acoustic tiling of classrooms
  • Sign boards to help the hearing impaired
  • Information provided through Braille, in large prints
  • Lectures on audio tapes from eminent scholars
  • Provision of Assistive Technology - Interactive keyboards, Touch screen computers, and Interactive whiteboards
  • Braille translation software etc.,

 All these facilities are provided free of cost to the socially disadvantageous section of society. This school will help in the following:

1. To promote primary and higher education of the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged children.
2. To increase the educational and employment accessibility of the people with disabilities by using assistive aids/ technologies and comprehensive vocational training
3. To reduce malnutrition related disability through nutritional supplements
4. To promote and spread art, cultural and other recreational avenues for people with disabilities.
5. To encourage sports and games of the people with disabilities especially the visually impaired
6. To promote eco-friendly living and sustainable waste management practices as an innovative vocational opportunity for the disabled. "

Bethany Junior School - Newly opening in HSR Layout

Bethany Junior School has opened in HSR Layout, South Bangalore and admissions are going on for 2011. I don't know if it is associated with the Bethany High School of Koramangla or not.

The school is located in a residence in:
17th Cross, (same road as Gnana Srishti School)
HSR Layout, Sector 1,
Bangalore.

Contact numbers were displayed on the gate but I failed to make a note of it.

Sujaya School from Sujaya Foundation and VBHC

VHBC, involved in low cost housing solutions and Sujaya Foundation (an NGO based in Mumbai) have tied up to build Sujaya School. The Foundation works with under -priviledged kids and provides training and assistance to them. In keeping with their mission, Sujaya School has 25% of seats reserved for the under-priviledged and would provide free education for them.

(They aim to accomodate about 2000 students till 12th in forth coming years.)
A tour of the school, applying through form, interview for class 1 and above, and that's it.

Activities: They have auditorium and hall for indoor games and promote expressive arts for kids. Sports like football, kho-kho, cycling,gymnastics, kabbadi etc.

Remarks: They have creche facility and also training programmes for women. Future plans for wi-fi campus and online libraries.
