Chinmaya Vidyalaya

Some of my neighbours kids were going to Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Koramangala. The school is one of those, which recently converted to ICSE syllabus from State Board syllabus. Due to the language policy of the Karnataka Government, the school took the decision.

Syllabus: ICSE recently
Location: Chinmaya Vidyalaya,
No 31, 15th Main,IV Block,
Koramangala,Bangalore, Karnataka - 560096
Phone: 80-25538341
email: chinmaya_bgl@dataone.in , gayathri_54@yahoo.com
( Note: There seems to be another state board affliated Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Bangalore, if so, please comment on it.)

Admissions: Novemeber- December. For admissions to Kindergarten the child has a interview.
Fees: Less than 20K per year.
Website: There is no separate website for the school, but you can look up the vision and approach here.

Activities: I am not sure if it has many extra activities besides craft and sloga chanting and athletics.

Remark: The school is part of Chinmaya mission. So students imbibe the vision of the Chinmaya mission. They have slogas taught in school. The mission is involved with education institutions all over India and abroad.
This school might not be the right one for an immigrant to Bangalore, since the office staff are fluent with Kannada.Getting replies in English proved to be hectic when we went to get applications in December. Nevertheless this is a good school for those wanting their wards to imbibe vedic values and traditions.

Online learning for CBSE and ICSE

I was looking for online methods of teaching children, but most of the online material is suited for US education. Something I found on constant searching was cbsetutor. It is a site for learning resources and a common room where you can discuss with fellow mates. There are 3 possibilities of logging in as: student, teacher, or parent.
If you login as a parent you can go only to the discussion room.
If you are a teacher you can upload teaching resources and discuss with other teachers.
If you are logged in as student you can goto a particular class and view the teaching material.

The teaching material is in the form of slide presentations. Not all topics are covered, but it sure has some online material for ICSE and CBSE classes. You will find resources for classes Pre-K till 12th. You first have to register and a email is sent to your id for verification. Be sure to login as student to view the learning materials.

Website: http://www.prakriyaschool.org/

Classes: Till 10th
Students per class: about 17 to 20
Admissions: Begin in October, visit the site or school for registration. Students need to attend 2 days of classes in Prakriya for observation. There are no entrance tests.

Remark: The school has a small student-teacher ratio. The school fosters open-minded and intuitive learning. Teachers are called as aunty's and a down-to-earth approach is undertaken. There are no formal exams till 4th. Interactivity based learning.
Maybe NRI's might not feel comfortable with the earthen look!.
The review I read can be looked up here.
