DPS Whitefield - Admissions announced

DPS Whitefield has put up newspaper ads for admissions for 2012-2013. For classes Nursery to Class 7.

This is the temporary location before it moves on to Koraluru village, behind Sai Baba Ashram.

New DPS School in Whitefield

Delhi Public School is adding a new school under its brand name in Whitefield this year (2011). The previous DPS Schools -  North, South and East Campus come under the KK Education and Charitable Trust.

The new DPS school is under the Praxy Fernandes Memorial Trust. Annabelle Manwaring is the contact person and is the Vice- Chairperson of the trust. The trust has been involved in helping the rural and disabled some time back. Annabelle, a mother of 4 daughters, was a Director at Leo Burnett in UK and has returned to Bangalore. She is involved as MD of Pro-Sports Promotions involving car rallies and is into the working of the trust.
Admissions are going on and applications have been distributed from last year, 2010 onwards.

Update on DPS (2010) admissions,fees, academics, paperless ...

Admissions in DPS start with announcements in the school website itself. Dates and syllabus for exams are mentioned thoroughly. The day of the exams everything is planned out well, students given out seating rooms and teachers take care of them. Parents can wait till exams are over. For higher classes there are afternoon exams as well.

Results are published on the website within a week or two for all the classes till 9th. A very informal interview of 5 mins is arranged with the Pricipal. You can pay the fees and that's it.

Well it's not over, you can be sure that apart from those selected, they retain few more seats, call in the next set of parents, maybe with a capitation of 65K,(30K without receipt and remaining with receipts). Still lesser seats are kept for June admissions, when people coming from abroad or transfer might apply and get in with a capitation ( sorry it's called admission fees now) of 90K or so.

Kids strength is about 40 or lesser for a class.

Fees last year(2009) was 31K. Fees for 2010 is 35K, this excluding transport(15K-16K), books, extra sports after-school hours, uniforms.

Kids have lots of activities and lots of choices, hobby class, clubs. Not much strain on Academics, no pressure. Not much homework. This year the first batch will be going for their 10th exams.
One disadvantage is that all parents should have an internet connection to check out the circulars being sent.

Going paperless is not the best option. This applies to all schools giving out circulars in the form of emails or as such in e-format. Think about the amount of electricity each parent wastes just to check whether a circular has been sent or not. Better use paper and recycle it.

Entrance dates in DPS

In DPS, the nursery shortlisted candidates names have been put up on their sites. The entrance tests for admission to classes 1 to 10th are Jan 30th,2010 and Feb 6th,2010 in Bangalore East and North respectively.

DPS criteria

An interesting extract from the Times of India regarding admissions and siblings:

"Earlier, the schools would `interview' the child for admission but after the Delhi High Court verdict, schools claim they do not conduct interviews. Some schools, especially those affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), follow the Ganguli Committee report, where weightages are given to various criterion. "The demand is more and supply is less. Hence, chalking out the criteria helps a fair admission process as each carries a certain weightage. Though a child with siblings stands a higher chance, the same weightage is given to proximity if a parent has only one child," Mansoor Ali Khan, member of the Board of Management, Delhi Public School (DPS), told The Times of India.

He said that at least 30% of the seats are given to children with siblings and the remaining percentage falls into other criterion. "We have around 3% of students who are wards of teachers, and 45% of the students are taken from areas in proximity," he added. "

Update on Delhi Public School Admission

I had been to the school (DPS east) recently and the approximate fee structure is as follows for 2010:

Admission fees: 65K
Annual fees (includes tution fees): 35K
Bus fees: Around 13K to 15K

Also admission for LKG and UKG has to be registered personally at the school. The online form is not to be used for nursery admissions.

Application for DPS admission

Hope most of you might have got the applications for DPS. For those of you yet to get, it will be issued till this weekend, (told over the counter) for 1st to 9th classes.
You can download the application from their site as well. Have to take a DD for Rs.600 for the prospectus.
Anyone who has browsed the site, will tell you the prospectus is a sheer replica with few details of the management added.
Another thing I noted is that DPS East has got its CBSE affiliation only recently. It's only then they have started 9th classes.
Entrance Tests will be around mid-December.
There are around a minimum of 7 sections for a class, so hoping by these calculations 30 per class * 7, you have got about 210 seats. Admission fees of 50K per student * 210, well give it a try!

Delhi Public School

One of the branded schools having locations in the three corners of Bangalore is Delhi Public School. The Bangalore schools come under K.K. Educational and Charitable Trust. The 130 schools in India and the 14 abroad come under the DPS Society. The first school (Naveen Bharat) was started way back in 1949. DPS has an established trademark.

Home work: Moderate amount of homework is given.

Admission: For Kindergarten, based on observation/interaction. You have to fill in a registration form(about Rs.600 for brochure), then you will be initimated by email, for a school visit.
For 1st till 11th, there will be written test and after that interaction.
They take into consideration your address, DPSite earlier, siblings in DPS etc.

Admission starts on the last week of November (it was 20th last year and this year too.) and it is followed uniformly in all the DPS Bangalore schools.Registration form can be downloaded from the site ( still the old form has been put up).

Admission tests have been carried out from November till March. Interviews have taken from April first week and results announced till May.
You can post your queries in any of the DPS sites you are interested. Be it admission or transport.
 
Fees: In 2007-2008 the north campus charged 25K per annum(Excluding bus; including tution, magazine,activities, misc) Check out here.
A report in Mid-Day suggested that the fees for 2008-2009 was 4900 per term, then they increased it to 6150 per quarter in 2009-2010.So the tution fees must be around 25K.

(Updated on 22 Oct, 2009): I asked around and was told the admission fees plus refundable deposit comes to around 50K. Annual fees is around 25K (primary classes).
The DPS site might state the fees in a few weeks time, so I hope to update then.
 
Remark: The DPS schools have installed Lyceum, so all the classroom activities, homework, assignments are updated online.
A parent had changed the school for the simple reason that the uniform was white. So I am just updating the school uniform colour here.
A friend of ours had their son admitted in 1st in DPS South, they shifted to Singapore in the middle of the term and it was easy to secure admissions in DPS Singapore for them.
Also more equal importance is laid on extra curriculars as well as studies. No undue pressure and parents need not sit long with their wards for coaching them.
