Admissions: Registration and issue of applications start in October. NPS schools have started issuing forms for 2010-2011. Each branch follows its own dates. You have to contact in person.
Admission for Grade 1 to 9 and 11 is based on written test.
The admission procedure is totally opaque.

Fees: Each NPS has its own fee structure. NPS Rajaji Nagar is about 50K whereas HSR branch is above 65K. Check out with the school for details.

Activities: Music, dance, aerobics, theatre, vocals etc. These are conducted after school hours from 3rd standard.

Academics: Only from grade 6, semester system starts. For lower classes, monthly reviews are undertaken. For KG, daily evaluation is conducted.

Remarks: NPS is known to be more academically oriented. NPS Rajaji Nagar has been granted autonomy by the CBSE board.
The admission process is not transparent. It is better schools post details on their website than having to curse the recptionists.
Having applied to NPS once, they never called for interviews (for LKG) . When we kept asking them, they just kept telling us, we will inform. One fine day, they respond admissions are over.
So what do they expect in the application?

Hope you can share your experiences.

Chinmaya Vidyalaya

Some of my neighbours kids were going to Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Koramangala. The school is one of those, which recently converted to ICSE syllabus from State Board syllabus. Due to the language policy of the Karnataka Government, the school took the decision.

Syllabus: ICSE recently
Location: Chinmaya Vidyalaya,
No 31, 15th Main,IV Block,
Koramangala,Bangalore, Karnataka - 560096
Phone: 80-25538341
email: chinmaya_bgl@dataone.in , gayathri_54@yahoo.com
( Note: There seems to be another state board affliated Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Bangalore, if so, please comment on it.)

Admissions: Novemeber- December. For admissions to Kindergarten the child has a interview.
Fees: Less than 20K per year.
Website: There is no separate website for the school, but you can look up the vision and approach here.

Activities: I am not sure if it has many extra activities besides craft and sloga chanting and athletics.

Remark: The school is part of Chinmaya mission. So students imbibe the vision of the Chinmaya mission. They have slogas taught in school. The mission is involved with education institutions all over India and abroad.
This school might not be the right one for an immigrant to Bangalore, since the office staff are fluent with Kannada.Getting replies in English proved to be hectic when we went to get applications in December. Nevertheless this is a good school for those wanting their wards to imbibe vedic values and traditions.

Bethany High

Started by Mignon David, Bethany High School has a good reputation and is a school from old times. You can find the history in the schools website.
They also have a primary section and a newly started child-care center.

Syllabus: ICSE
Location: Bethany High, # CA -12, 20th Main, Koramangala, Bangalore - 560 095.
Website: http://www.bethanyhigh.net/

Admission: Admission forms are posted in the website in December. Keep watching out for it. It seems getting admission is a tough task here. Lots of applications, you need a high profile recommendation it looks like.

Activities: Lots of co-curricular activities.
Fees: Seems to be around 30K.
