Online learning

Hi, Its been a long time since I posted anything on learning online for kids. So thought of listing out some of the sites which I have found to be very good for them.

Let me start with abcya.com. This site has lots of learning games for kindergarten to class 5. You can try out math and english language games. There are also fun games in this site and some of the apps can be downloaded for your iphone, ipod and ipad. The site navigation is simple and colourful, making your little one play and learn at the same time.

Maths Word Problems? Finding it hard?

A few weeks ago I started teaching my little one, maths word problems. He was finding it hard to understand the wordings for one thing and to make sense of the jargons.

Then he had to find out whether to use addition or subtraction or multiplication or division. It was a hard time showing him the problems through pictures for each problem. This is when I chanced upon this site and wanted to share how excellent the material has been presented.

You can goto thinkingblocks.com and you will find how easy word problems have been handled. You have addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Also fractions and ratios. The word problems are based on the model method and it will give you immense ideas. You can create your own problems as well. Do try it out.

There are lots of animations for each system of the body, yoga practises like asanas, how-tos. Its a useful site for both students and grown-ups. It's easier to explain to kids when showing these animes.

Online learning for CBSE and ICSE

I was looking for online methods of teaching children, but most of the online material is suited for US education. Something I found on constant searching was cbsetutor. It is a site for learning resources and a common room where you can discuss with fellow mates. There are 3 possibilities of logging in as: student, teacher, or parent.
If you login as a parent you can go only to the discussion room.
If you are a teacher you can upload teaching resources and discuss with other teachers.
If you are logged in as student you can goto a particular class and view the teaching material.

The teaching material is in the form of slide presentations. Not all topics are covered, but it sure has some online material for ICSE and CBSE classes. You will find resources for classes Pre-K till 12th. You first have to register and a email is sent to your id for verification. Be sure to login as student to view the learning materials.
