Remarks: Tie-up with EduSports
After school care available

I had called up the school to visit the new school. It seems the construction is yet to start. They are starting construction in mid-January and it is to be completeb by June 1st. The location of the campus is a large are which identifies it as a tennis coaching camp area. It is located midway between Harlur to Kudlu Gate.

Update: (Jan 26,2010) I had been to the school to enquire about new admissions. Construction has not yet started in the new site. They propose to start by Feb first week. I was not sure whether the building would be ready by June. They then told me that maybe for 2 or 3 months, students will be taught here and then after construction is over, students will be shifted. Another thing is that only ground floor would have come up for school to start functioning. And they told me the whole builing would be complete by 2010 end. That means construction would be going on with students around. To get things settled I think it would take another year.

I also saw the interactive white boards they use for teaching and all teachers were busy with their laptops.

They have also tied up with Edu-Sports to groom the children for physical activity and for constant monitoring. After a few years depending on each child's ability they will be trained in that particular sport.

DPS criteria

An interesting extract from the Times of India regarding admissions and siblings:

"Earlier, the schools would `interview' the child for admission but after the Delhi High Court verdict, schools claim they do not conduct interviews. Some schools, especially those affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), follow the Ganguli Committee report, where weightages are given to various criterion. "The demand is more and supply is less. Hence, chalking out the criteria helps a fair admission process as each carries a certain weightage. Though a child with siblings stands a higher chance, the same weightage is given to proximity if a parent has only one child," Mansoor Ali Khan, member of the Board of Management, Delhi Public School (DPS), told The Times of India.

He said that at least 30% of the seats are given to children with siblings and the remaining percentage falls into other criterion. "We have around 3% of students who are wards of teachers, and 45% of the students are taken from areas in proximity," he added. "

School fees in 2004?

I came across a blog which had the fee structure of schools in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai way back in 2004. Did you know the American School in Delhi charged as high as 59K per month? I think schools in Bangalore are headed towards the same.

Well, you should check out the site here- Education in India

Update on Bethany High admissions

Those of you looking out at Bethany High school admissions must have seen the notice, out on their website. The final list has will be put-up on January 19th, 2010 on their notice board and website. Last year the final list was made out on the first week of March 2009. Looks like this year they are early.

Admissions for 2010 saw an issue of Pre-liminary information form(free of cost) and an optional Prospectus(Rs. 300). Issued only from 23rd to 30th Novemeber,2009.
They told that the admissions are available only for nursery and not other classes.

They have put up admissions will be based on a direct interaction of a committee(excluding Pricipal/HM) with the parents are the deciding factors. No recommendations.

Has anyone got admission here? Do share what is their eligibilty criteria. Is it true that being affluent plays a part in admission? I know of parents who felt bad on having their social status discussed.

Home remedy and a Happy New Year!

Wishing all readers a very happy new year. Ushering in more happiness, joy and peace into everyone's lives in the years to come.

It's the time of the year when everyone's just out of the holiday mood. Snuggling under bed covers and having a time of flus and cold. Since this site has readers with kids, it just made me feel right to post on a home remedy I use for cold.

It was sometime that I read about this, and have applied it since with good effect. If anyone has a cold, be it adult or child, I use Vicks Vapo rub or any balm for that matter. Instead of applying it in the regions of the nose and chest, I apply the balm to the region underneath both the feet at night. Children sleep soundly.

When I apply it in the nose and chest regions, I feel those regions get heated more and varying heat regions are created. When I apply in the feet, there is heat regulation throughout the body.

Another tip that I learnt recently was for cough. If anyone is suffering from cough, then you hold your pointer finger in the space between your nostrils and upperlip. Press gently, then massage clockwise (about 5-7 cycles), press again and massage gently in the anti-clockwise direction. This can be done to kids at night.

Do you try any other home remedies, do share it with us.
